  It would be helpful be able to add a line to the screen to line up two points to find a potential third point.

  If the two are so far away from each other that you cannot guess where the 3rd should be, a real object would be trailed (because it would have to be moving so fast). Just so that you get an idea how far real main belt objects move in these, please have a look at these:
