    Truthfully, this is more likely an artifact than a planet. Not only would a planet have to be extremely gigantic to do that to a star, but it would also be blurred, and a star would easily outshine the planet by a factor of several million.

    Agreed. I think what's happening is the relative brightness of the star is overloading one or more of the sensor pixels. It's a smaller version of those big jaggy artifacts you see quite a lot in these images.
