Unknown astroid

  • Patch1947 by Patch1947

Over the time I have been hunting unknown asteroids, I have found two or three asteroids that when I finished the search just receive the message,"thanks for hunting" or something similar. Is there not something that could at least let us know you are least checking to see if in fact it is an unknown asteroid?

when you get a known asteroid it will tell you that its known about and the name appears at the top of the frames, if its unknown and you mark it, youll have to wait for it to be checked and subjectd to the MPC for cheaking ect. this can take in realistic tims about 3 years.

Do they have that many unknown asteroids found that it takes that long to verify? That seems improbable.

Do not depend on the number of asteroids to be verified, but the fact that they are the checks that take a long time, because an orbit can be estimated with little data, but for a final confirmation must verify the same orbit with two or more steps of 'asteroid in question.
